This course on information economics set me up for the rest of my life. First of all, it provided a framework to think about almost every situation that involves some sort of information exchange, be it between humans or companies. I countinued to work on some of the topics from this course in my later work on patents owned by large corporations in my PhD dissertation.

There was a period of great struggle during my time at Sabancı University. An accumulation of undiagnosed anxiety, coupled with personal issues, led to poor academic performance. During that time, I took OPIM 301 three times. Each time, I strived to do well but ended up not attending class or dropping the course. Through a lot of effort (and therapy), I managed to improve myself mentally and put myself in a position where I was healthy and determined to give my best shot for the time I had left at Sabancı. Yet, I knew how unforgiving academia can be. It's hard to increase your GPA once you've failed a number of courses, and I did not have much time left to improve my grades significantly.Additionally, I was also worried about how I looked from the professor's perspective. Here's a lazy student taking my class for the fourth time. I was almost ashamed to take OPIM 301 from Tevhide Hoca. I took it anyway and decided to give it my best. Fourth time's the charm, perhaps? Yet, I still felt as though I had to adress something. After the first few classes, I nervously went up to Tevhide hoca and apologized for being a terrible student. The understanding and kindness I received in return were overwhelming. Her kindness, professionalism, and enthusiasm in her teaching motivated me to adopt the same qualities in my studentship. I attended every class I had that semester, and every semester onwards. I got an A in OPIM 301 and was Dean's Honor List that semester. In the previous semester, truthfully, I had five Fs. I had many wonderful professors at Sabancı University. But I'd like to thank Tevhide Hoca for this inflection point in my life. She truly helped me move past this mental block I had with academia- and discipline in general. She did so all through understanding and by being a professional herself. Since then, I went on to acquire an MSc in Strategic Management in Ireland with First Class Honors and was Top of the Class. I am working in two companies, both of which I'm a managing partner in. When things get difficult and there's a lot of information to digest, I still recall how Tevhide Hoca would break things down into smaller and more understandavle chunks for us - and I try to do the same in my work. So I'd like to say thank you, Tevhide Hoca. You've helped me in more ways than I can express. And if a student who's struggling as I was is reading this message, please understand your circumstance is not a reflection of who you are. I know how frustrating it is when you hear from successful people who were always successfull students giving speeched about success. But let me tell you, as a once ''failure,'' you can achieve academic and professional success in the highest degrees. It's in you somewhere. Believe me. Get help if necessary, surround yourself with intelligent and kind people, work hard - and if you're lucky like me, you'll have a proffessor like Tevhide Hoca on your path to success.

Sabancı Üniversitesi'ndeki lisans eğitimim boyunca, yapay zeka alanına olan ilgimin somut bir tutkuya dönüşmesini sağlayan en önemli etkenlerden biri Öznur Hoca'nın dersleriydi. Kendisinden aldığım Machine Learning ve ilgili yapay zeka dersleri, yalnızca teorik bilgiyi değil; aynı zamanda gerçek dünta problemlerine uygulanabilir çözümler üretme becerisini kazanmama da yardımcı oldu. Bu derslerde geliştirdiği projeler, Imperial College London gibi dünya sıralamasında ilk 2'de yer alan bir üniversitenin yapay zeka yüksek lisans programına kabulümde belirleyici bir rol oynadı. Bu başarının arkadında Öznur Hoca'nın hem akademik donanımı hem de öğrencilerine verdiği ilham yatıyor. Öznur Hoca'nın ders anlatımı son derece sistematik, anlaşılır ve derinlemesineydi. Konulara yaklaşımı hem teorik zemini sağlam bir şekilde oturtmamı sağladı hem de ileri düzey araştırma konularına merak duymama vesile oldu. Öznur Hoca'nın katkısı sadece ders içeriğiyle sınırlı kalmadı. Yapay zeka alanında kariyer planlamam sürecinde, hem Türkiye'de hem de yurt dışında bu alanda çalışan akademisyen ve profesyonellerle beni tanıştırarak vizyonumu genişletti ve kritik kararlarımda rehberlik etti. Bugün kariyer yolculuğumda sağlam adımlarla ilerleyebiliyorsam, bunda Öznur Hoca'nın bana kazandırdığı bilgi birikimi, bakış açısı ve desteğinin büyük payı var. Kendisinin akademiye ve öğrenci gelişimine katkısını büyük bir takdir ve minnetle anıyorum.

I wanted to thank you for everything and making this class better than any other . My previous experiences with the other math professors were not as good because they were not putting the effort to actually make sure that we learn most of them are just writing the notes again on the board and just thinking they are explaining but not making sure we understand even when we ask questions there weren’t clear answers. But , Prof. Mohammad was nothing like others he cares and puts the effort, making us comfortable with the subject and complicating concepts of math . If i am being honest , he was the reason where we all entered the exam not scared. So i want to thank him from the heart, really. (We had a plan of getting him flowers but we couldn’t since the last problems in the campus but yea)

Miss Elif Koç is an excellent instructor and a person with a very big heart. I will never forget the lectures that I attended, because she could make a bad day better. It was amazing to learn from an expert in the field of Computer Science. Professors sometimes do not know how much of the impact they have on one person's life, and this is a little bit sad, if you think about it. She made a huge impact on my life, and I am grateful for that. Thank you for all the knowledge I gained from the course and all the help / kind words, when I had a bad day, did not believe in myself or I just missed my family. Without his effortless supports, there would be no thesis nor papers would be achieved successfully. He was the one provided novel methodologies, techniques and knowledge from abroad to our country and thought us as students how to set them up in our lab.
